MFA Thesis Project

For my thesis project at CalArts, I designed and built a small light sculpture. The conceptual goal was to create something special for people who live in areas that don't experience many changes in the weather, such as deserts, tropics & jungles, artic thundra, etc. I took a dead flower plant, installed artificial leaves, flowers, fruit shapes, and ice crystals, each with an RGB Neopixel LED, then wired and programmed it using Arduino software and a Flora mini controller. Different color schemes were used to emulate the four seasons and it would slowly fade between each one or be paused in case a static color was desired.

"Cycle of Seasons", a light sculpture. The first photo is a rendering done in Cinema 4D of each color palette for each season.
